Banksy's $1.4 million prank or message?
The faceless British artist, Banksy, pulled a stunt last month which created quite a buzz and left many eyebrows raised. After "Girl With a Balloon" sold for $1.4 million at a live auction in London, it suddenly shredded into pieces, filling the room with shock. It's also been noted that the buyer of the painting remained anonymous. Could it have been Banksy?
So many questions come to mind. What was the message behind this stunt? Many believe the theme of it all was anti-capitalism. Some say it was planned by the art gallery to create attention. Does it mean anything that the piece stopped shredding when it reached the heart shaped balloon? Why’d it sell for so much? Is it mainly because of Banksy’s legacy? As time passes, will the piece go up or down in value?
